The original design for this project was fairly elaborate and the scheme nearly didn’t go ahead due to being considerably over budget.
Inside took this as a challenge to see how the design could be altered to fit in with the budget whilst still providing the college with everything they needed. Through close collaboration with our design partners, the costs consultants and engineers we were able to come up with the right solution.
The result was a brand new workshop area with a high u -value achieved with new cladding, exposed services, multipurpose flooring, relocated compressor room with masonry walls, new level floor slab, external glazing and doors as well as new internal doors and finishes throughout.
An Electrical Vehicle training academy was created from existing engineering class rooms. These rooms were fully stripped out, received all the décor, electrical containment and wiring as well as lighting and small power. The doors were replaced, the floor finishes upgraded as well as new hand washing facilities in the corridor.
In addition to the workshop, the scheme also incorporated a large external canopy over the brickwork, plastering and plumbing outdoor class areas. This involved large structural steel work, foundations, drainage modification, Armco barriers and external lighting.
